THIS The problem is that when he is awake in the crate and I'm not in the room, he will bark, whine and howl to what feels like no end. The problem were having is crating him during the day when I actually leave the room. Am I on the right track? Do I just need to stay strong, ignore the fits, and slowly work up to that 3 hour mark? If I crate him and leave the room when he isn't asleep, he goes bonkers too. I started off with shorter periods of time and have worked up to about an hour and a half, but when I go back to school in Feb, he will need to be in for periods of about 3-5 hours or so with a dog walker coming for 30 min on the days when I'm gone longer than 3 hours. We usually let him take a nap with us in our bed from 7-9am or he naps on the lovesack during different parts of the day. I continue to treat and praise while he is in and quiet.
