THISIt's Willie Nelson's Birthday Also. So Happy birthday to him too...Hello, it's me and Ruby. She brings me to this website in the hope that we might find solutions to her behavior issue. She's 4 12. We have had her since 6 weeks of age, got her from a back yard breeder (before we knew better) and she first showed her dog aggression at 7 weeks during puppy hour at Petsmart. We couldn't leave her on the floor with the pups because she was attacking them all. I am home with her all day - she prefers indoors so we are together all day. We do NILF, worked for a few months with a trainer and I love to go walking and camping with her. She's trained in many areas but it all goes out the window in the presence of another dog (only one dog she loves she met as a puppy). I can manage her - with major effort on my part- on walks but her nature brings about fights and it's not safe for me to walk with the children and her without my husband. We also have major issues with her attacking any dog she can reach. Last weekend her collar latch failed and she attacked a dog that came into our yard. When greeting on a walk she will immediately attack the other dog unless we use force and collar pops with a prong collar - this method barely works. Her trainer said that part of her mentality will always be there and the best we can do is continue working with her and be prepared for it. We just started with the Halti but I am so afraid of equipment failures I double leash her. My major issue with her is the "what if". Human error and equipment failures do happen from time to time (my son opened the door our first week in the new home and out she went to attack the neighbors dog in it's kennel. What if by accident she gets out and something really, really bad happens. She loves children but if she was in her "attack" state of mind a child could get hurt if it tried to intervene. There are many loose dogs and many children in our neighborhood.Anyone have any insight to offer us? We love her and wish to keep her but are so afraid of what might happen. This is a thread about African cities.
