Now, I've never actually asked for a server's name if it wasn't given, but I don't think it would cross my mind in a million years I was "slighting" anybody if I did ask for it, presuming I didn't also ask "when do you get off and can I have your phone number?" Knowing someone's name when there is a business relationship (even a temporary one) seems pretty normal to me. Maybe she has reason to be nervous, if the guy's a womanizer, but in that case, blaming the "etiquette" of asking for a server's name is just sidestepping the real problem.I'm worried about this woman's poor FMIL.
